The deer sanctuary in Malo Village functions as an ex-situ conservation site for Java deer (Cervus timorensis). According to the IUCN (2015), this species is endemic to Indonesia and is classified as vulnerable. Established in 2014, the sanctuary is a collaborative effort between Cepu Asset 4 Production Exploration and the Forest Management Unit of Parengan. Initially, it housed 13 deer from Blitar, but the population has since increased to 27. The facility, which covers 4,800 square meters, is secured with iron fencing and includes special enclosures for birthing and weaning to help reduce mortality rates among fawns due to adult deer. In addition to supporting wildlife conservation, the sanctuary serves as an educational center and a tourist attraction
